Discover the joys and benefits of yoga in a supportive and nurturing environment explicitly tailored for older beginner adults. This four-week series, led by the experienced and compassionate instructor Melina, offers a gentle approach to yoga. It is perfect for those who want to take it slower while reaping the many physical and mental rewards of this ancient practice.
Melina’s classes are thoughtfully designed to accommodate all levels of students, featuring unique and innovative variations of traditional Hatha yoga postures. Each session emphasizes the key pillars of yoga for healthy aging: strength, balance, flexibility, and agility.
Throughout the course, you will focus on:
- Session #1 – Strength: Build and maintain muscle tone with gentle yet effective yoga poses and core conditioning exercises. A Theraband, a versatile resistance tool, provides additional support and challenge as you perform various movements. In addition to strengthening your body, these exercises will help improve your posture, reduce the risk of injury, and boost your confidence in daily activities.
- Session # 2 – Balance: Use targeted balance exercises to enhance stability and prevent falls. You’ll practice a range of balance poses from standing, using a chair as a prop, to seated exercises. Be surprised and delighted by how fun balance poses can be and how they help you improve your mental focus.
- Session # 3 – Bonus Practice with Lynn Crimando
- Session # 4 – Flexibility: Increase your range of motion and reduce stiffness with safe and gradual stretches. This session will introduce techniques to deepen your practice using a chair, longer-held postures, and joint mobilization practices to improve joint flexibility.
- Session # 5– Agility: Improve your overall coordination and movement with gentle flows. Our final session will weave elements from the previous sessions, adding mini-vinyasa to get you moving in sync with your breath.
Whether you are new to yoga or returning after a break, this course provides a welcoming space for all levels of practitioners to explore and enjoy yoga.
